Cyber Feminism Past Forward

“Cyber Feminism past forward consists of a “cyber fems virtual real” exhibition with feminist net art, websites, posters, screenings and “cyber fems real meetings” with presentations, panels and performances. The exhibition focuses on current works of international media artists, the history of women’s movements and celebrates the pioneers of cyberfeminism. In the panel “Name the depoliticalization of cyber feminisms!” we will concentrate on the essential question of the exhibition: how are aspects of the depoliticalization of feminisms emerging in light of today’s global politics?

HTMlles Festival

From the 19th-29th of October 2006, a program of artworks and artists that participated in the 7th edition of the HTMlles festival themed Peripheries + Proximities will travel to 3 cities: Belgrade, Serbia Sofia, Bulgaria and Istanbul, Turkey with the goal of fostering new dialog and collaborations. Through a series of focused encounters, interactive workshops, artists talks, performances and short exhibitions, the traveling Canadian artists and their works will encounter numerous curators, gallerists, cultural operators, local artists and local publics in each of the 3 cities.
The touring works will be presented in parallel to programming produced by local partners and translated in English and in the respective local languages. All events are open to the public, including the interactive workshops.

The HTMlles Festival is an ongoing project of StudioXX, Montreal, Canada’s foremost women’s digital resource centre, in operation since 1995. The HTMlles Festival, started as an annual event focused on the position of women in cyberspace, has now evolved to become an international biennial project which includes all facets of new media and web art technologies. The Montreal events now stand as a globally known meeting place for women and feminists working in creative digital mediums and the addition of circulation projects has created an international network for Canadian new media artists.

Following the EXPORT2 tour, the next HTMlles biennial event will be held in October 2007, in Montreal. Tech sta per tecnologie (chiaro, no?) e Betty per identità (meno ovvio, ma altrettanto importante): un nome che indica un percorso di liberazione attraverso e per mezzo delle tecnologie. A Bologna una serata al fresco tra hacking e genere. Betty si fa tecnologa e non lascia ad esperti e sistemisti l’indicazione della via del desiderio e della rivoluzione. *Betty sa i fatti suoi*. Contro gli abusi biopolitici. Mythic Hybrid

L’artista indiana Prema Murthy, già autrice di Bindigirl, ha lanciato il suo nuovo lavoro commissionato da turbulence.org. Il progetto nasce dalla riflessione sulla condizione delle donne nelle fabbriche microelettroniche asiatiche. L’analisi della Murthy è supportata da una diretta conoscenza della situazione lavorativa femminile nel contesto dello sviluppo tecnologico in Asia. L’artista, infatti, nel 2001 ha viaggiato attraverso l’India per investigare ed individuare quelle situazioni di sfruttamento, nelle quali però l’universo femminile ha saputo innescare anche sistemi di controllo. Entrando in Mythic Hybrid, le parole chiave Asian, microelectronics, women, factory workers funzionano da motore di ricerca per la raccolta di una serie di articoli, racconti, video e associazioni (come Asian Women Workers) che studiano queste difficili relazioni con un occhio al cyberfemminismo.

Inaugurerà dopodomani all’Edith-Russ Haus fur Medienkunst di Oldenburg, in Germania, la mostra Cyberfem: spirit of data, un’esposizione che comprende le riflessioni e le opere in rete di dieci artiste. Durante l’inaugurazione le americane Heather Cassils e Cathy Davies realizzeranno un’ironica performance intitolata Microsoft me/Click and Drag, durante la quale, travestite da Bill Gates e assistite da vari dispositivi tecnologici, metteranno in scena una riflessione su maschilismo, tecnologia e potere. Tra le altre artiste presenti in mostra anche Diane Ludin, Francesca da Rimini e Agnese Trocchi, per l’occasione riunite in un trio, Jenny Marketou, autrice di Taystes.net, e la cyberfemminista per eccellenza Cornelia Sollfrank.
