It is a game played with a guitar-shaped usb controller on a 5100m² LED facade. The player has to hit the buttons and stroke on the controller at the right time, depending on the falling blocks on the building.
The game was developed during the course “interface technologies” with Robert Praxmarer at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. Project GuitARS was written in Java, the controller input is piped via xpadder. A note-recording tool was written in C++.

“On May 4th, 2007, we asked internet users to help isolate Michael Jackson’s white glove in all 10,060 frames of his nationally televised landmark performance of Billy Jean. 72 hours later 125,000 gloves had been located. wgt_data_v1.txt is the culmination of data collected. It is released here for all to download and use as an input into any digital system. Just as the data was gathered collectively it is our hope that it will be visualized collectively. Please email links to your apps, video, source code, and/or screen shots to evan[at]eyebeam[dot]org. Work will be exhibited in an online gallery and depending on popularity and interest potentially in a forthcoming physical gallery exhibition as well. Huge thanks to everyone that contributed to the data collection.”

“Due to its limitation composing songs with the MIDI synthesizer of my laptop was always an attraction to me. The sequencer software is simple, and cheesy melodies are clicked within a second. After clicking this link you’ll find a compilation of songs squeezed into a little story about Gérald Midi, a hard working businessman, who is caught in his dreams of a colorful, exciting life. Maybe similar dreams are shared by MIDI files themselves as well.”

The orchestra consists of 12 classical musicians and the artist duo TERMINALBEACH.
Using their heartbeats, the musicians control a computer composition and visualization environment. The musical score is generated in real time by the heartbeats of the musicians. They read and play this score from a computer screen placed in front of them. HCO forms a structure where music literally “comes from the heart”.

Inside a Dead Skyscraper is the newest project by Molleindustria, a music video game for the song “The building” by Jesse Stiles.

“The game and the song are based on Jesse’s brief tenure as a videographer in the partially destroyed buildings surrounding the World Trade Center site. Ideally, it is meant to be a critical answer to the proliferation of rhythm games ‘a la Guitar Hero. These karaoke-derived products simply capitalize on already successful music, generating royalties for a dying record industry and reinforcing the mythology of the rock star as super-human that common people should identify with.
An alternative approach to the musical game form would link the independent music and independent games scenes. Indie music games could promote unknown bands to the multi-tasking, hyperactive, interaction-addicted new generations. They could enhance the listening experience while being autonomous works as the best music videos have been done in the last 30 years. ”

If you mosh really hard you can trigger a guitar solo for the ultimate rock experience. Your performance in front of the amp will additionally be supportet by a lightshow with smoke, flash and pyrotechnics.

Live Video Ensemble is a live audio-video project conceived by Claudio Sinatti and performed by a 10 element ensemble together with a musician or band. The shows follow a 2/4 day workshop in wich 10 people are prepared for the execution of the performance. During the show the musician and the ensemble compose a single, abstract, completely improvised, yet perfectly synced, audio-video stream.
The visual track is performed in real time, using a custom generative software. Images are controlled by the ensemble through a set of midi instruments connected to a single computer. The software recieves the music and the performers can link it to different image parameters as well as controlling the scene manually. The result is a highly organic audiovisual show in wich the sounds seem to be produced directly from the images.

All basic clefs, note values and accidentals exist as single wood elements. Whole, half, quarter and eighth notes differ not only in their form, but also in their weight: Long note values are heavier than short ones.
The table has two modes: A standard mode, where you can place notes on the table in a playful and experimental way and explore the related music outcome. And an excercise mode, where excercises and tutorials sort by topic and difficulty have to be mastered.

They set out a brightly colored blanket surround by a circle of chairs at McCarren Park, Williamsburg, Brooklyn and brought amplified iPhones on which they have downloaded touchscreen drum and bongo applications.
As explained by M.River of MTAA “The main objective of the iPhone Drum Circle is to get a total stranger to do a little dance on our blanket. That and hopefully enjoying the last summer Sunday in the park this year for an hour.”

Inspired by early 19th century mechanical bands such as the nickelodeon, Cybraphon is an interactive version of a mechanical band in a box. Consisting of a series of robotic instruments housed in a large display case, Cybraphon behaves like a real band. Image conscious and emotional, the band’s performance is affected by online community opinion as it searches the web for reviews and comments about itself 24 hours a day.

Headbang Hero, by Tiago Martins, Ricardo Nascimento and Andreas Zingerle is a music/dance video game for testing and improving your headbanging prowess. A special wig is used as a game controller, feeding motion data to the game software. The game analyses in real time how well your headbanging follows the rhythm of the music. You are awarded points for your personal headbanging choreography… but you should be aware that your health is at risk! To stress this point Headbang Hero also analyses how hazardous your performance is. As opposed to what happens in games where the player is in control of an avatar, in Headbang Hero what matters is the player’s own health. The game keeps track of two distinct aspects of the player’s performance. The first is the player’s (potentially heroic) sense of style and rhythm as he headbangs along to the music. The second is the amount of health damage the player is causing himself in the quest to become a hero. When the game ends the player receives a printed health report based on his performance analysis. Included in this report are tips on how to improve the performance and advice on how to avoid injuries.
Headbang hero is currently installed in Linz for Ars Electronica 2009 (Interface Culture Exhibition. 4-8 september 2009).

When players touch one of the semi spheres they become part of an electronic circuit consisting of a tiny, imperceptible current. When the players now start to touch each other on the skin this circuit starts to generate sound. The intensity of the touch determines the modulation of the sound.
